Naloxone Pharmacies

Through a standing order contained in Pennsylvania Act 19, individuals can legally and confidentially obtain Naloxone without a prescription at participating pharmacies throughout Pennsylvania. You can also obtain FREE Naloxone by mail confidentially through NEXT Distro. If you or a loved one may be at risk for opioid overdose, Naloxone can mean the difference between life and death.

While Naloxone is readily available to anyone who wants it, the PA Department of Health strongly urges professional training on proper administration of the medication. Emergency personnel, including EMTs, police, firefighters, physicians and other health-care providers, are the most highly trained and reliable people to administer Naloxone for overdose reversal.

In an emergency situation, it is IMPERATIVE that an overdose be reported to 911 immediately, even if someone successfully administers Naloxone to the person suffering the overdose. Depending on the amount of opioids in the person’s system, they can experience a second overdose after the Naloxone wears off. Under the state’s Good Samaritan law, in most instances, a person reporting an overdose can remain with the victim until help arrives without fear of legal consequences.
